Family and Child Studies - 2015 University Catalog

Chairperson: Dr. Katia Paz Goldfarb

The department of Family and Child Studies examines multiple ways of knowing families and individuals over the life course in various socio-cultural contexts. Power, diversity and social justice are analyzed through an interdisciplinary and critical approach.

A Bachelor of Arts degree is offered with three concentrations: Families, Children and School Settings; Family Services; and Gerontology. Students are prepared to teach; work with businesses, agencies, government programs, and other institutions; and/or pursue graduate study.  Many courses are open as electives for those majoring in other fields of study.

An interdisciplinary minor in Gerontology is housed in this department.

At the Graduate level, the department offers a Master of Arts in Family and Child Studies and a Ph.D. in Family Studies.
