PORT241: Portugese Grammar and Composition I (3 hour lecture)

Advanced course on Portuguese grammar to afford students an opportunity to practice in composition and conversation such points of structure and usage as sentence construction, agreement, prepositions, sequence of tenses, the subjunctive, and uses of Ser and Estar. PORT242: Portugese Grammar and Composition II (3 hours lecture)

This course continues the examination and review of grammatical structures and usage, and provides the students further opportunity to perfect their writing and speaking abilities in Portuguese. Previous course PORT 142 effective through Spring 2012. 3 sh.

PORT321: Commercial Portugese (3 hours lecture)

For students interested in the business field: technical vocabulary, styles, format and types of correspondence. Emphasis on written fluency and expression. Previous course PORT 221 effective through Spring 2012. 3 sh.

PORT350: Translating I (3 hours lecture)

Techniques of translating Portuguese-English, English-Portuguese. Analysis of variations in connotation, emphasis, style, sentence structure, expression of ideas and images. 3 sh.

PORT360: Voices of the Past and Present: Portugal (3 hours lecture)

An intensive study of representative works by the most important authors of each major period in Portuguese literature. Previous course PORT 160 effective through Spring 2012. 3 sh.

PORT373: Selected Topics in Portugese Studies (3 hours lecture)

This course will explore one aspect of Portuguese language, literature, or cultural studies that is either not covered in the curriculum or deserves more in-depth treatment than is possible in an existing course. The specific topic will be announced each time the course is offered. This course may be repeated twice for a total of 9 credits. 3 sh.

PORT380: Independent Study in Portugese Studies (Independent Study)

The goal of this course is to provide students and faculty with flexibility within the existing academic structure. Students and faculty may collaborate to create a course of study in Portuguese Studies that either supplements existing courses or fills in gaps in a student's curriculum. May be repeated twice provided the course content is different, for a maximum of 9.0 credits. 3 sh.

PORT385: Cooperative Education

This course provides an opportunity to extend academic resources beyond the campus by placing the student in meaningful learning situations with thoroughly screened and approved employers. Each chosen situation is to prepare the student to play a dynamic role in society. 4 - 8 sh.
