Profile
I am an inorganic chemist and crystallographer. The undergraduate courses that I currently teach are General Chemistry (freshman level) and Descriptive Inorganic Chemistry (sophomore level) and Advanced Inorganic Chemistry (senior level). I also teach graduate inorganic courses such as Bioinorganic Chemistry. In my research, I prepare transition metal coordination compounds. Current projects in my lab are 1) exploring the coordination chemistry of imidazole and 2) preparation of metal based quasiracemates. quasiracemates are cocrystals of two compounds small structural changes in one so that the two are almost mirror images of each other. Compounds prepared in my laboratory are analyzed by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The primary service position I have is the teacher certification officer. I am the subject mentor and advisor for the chemistry teacher candidates.
Specialization
Preparation and crystallographic study of coordination compounds with ligands that contain hydrogen bonding groups.
Characterization of quasiracemates containing transition metal complexes.
