Profile

Dr. Park (also known as Ju Hyun Park) is an Assistant Professor of the Department of Public Health in the College for Community Health at Montclair State University.

Dr. Park's academic research and interests have been on various renditions of social capital and health outcomes, mostly perceived health. In grad school, she focused on neighborhood level sense of community and social support and its association to mental health. At Montclair, the work expanded to include student belonging in higher education and its association to mental health. Her areas of interest include social capital, early adult-onset hearing loss, measurement, health justice, and systems thinking.

Lately, she has been working with audiologists to evaluate early adult-onset hearing loss among middle-aged individuals and their impact on social connectedness or isolation, mental health, potential earnings, and more. This proposal has been accepted to the Center for Health Equity Research (CHER) Institute.

Dr. Park is also passionate about teaching as research. She is committed to building a learning community as an inclusive educator. She incorporates Universal Design for Learning (UDL) in her teaching as much as possible and produces studies that improve teaching.

Dr. Park received her PhD in Development Studies and MS in Population Health Sciences with an Epidemiology Option from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She also holds an MIS with a focus on Development Cooperation, a BA in International Studies, and a BA in NGO Studies from Ewha Womans University in Seoul, South Korea.
