Dr. Sharon Lai-LaGrotteria is the Assistant Director of Supplemental Instruction at the Center for Academic Success and Tutoring (CAST) and Course Instructor for Master of Arts in Teaching Education and Engaged Learning students at the Department of Teaching and Learning.
Prior to joining MSU, Professor Lai completed her education at the University of Oxford and the University of Hong Kong, where she received multiple distinctions and recognitions for her research work. Her study on inclusive practices in Hong Kong was published and presented at various international conferences, most notably at the National Institute of Education in Singapore. Her research interests include English language teaching, education policy and curriculum implementation, teacher identity development, Hong Kong expatriate social communities, and bilingualism as the nexus for cultural and political immersion.
Professor Lai also served as Lecturer and Teaching Practicum Supervisor at the University of Hong Kong before taking up multiple academic positions at the Jack Welch School of Business at Sacred Heart University in Connecticut, and the Global Language Institute at Monroe University in New York. As an English Teaching Professor, she held seminars for first-year students to facilitate their transition from secondary to higher education.
With a passion for teaching and connecting with students from diverse backgrounds, Professor Lai has taught at a wide range of educational institutions, from preschool to higher education, in both private and public settings. Her teaching experience spans across Hong Kong, Singapore, Connecticut, New York, and New Jersey.
