Profile

As the Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs (APFA) Emily Isaacs is a key member of the Provost’s leadership team, leading the development and execution of a unifying strategy for faculty hiring, advancement, and development. The APFA provides clear pathways and support for faculty hiring, onboarding, and advancement; faculty recognition, and faculty professional and leadership development. Supporting faculty across ranks, the AFPA develops and executes this vision in collaboration with other senior academic leaders to advance institutional goals, foster a supportive and inclusive academic environment, and promote faculty excellence.

Emily Isaacs is also responsible for managing the Office for Faculty Excellence (OFE), which empowers faculty at all career stages to achieve their highest potential in teaching, research, leadership, and service. Through inclusive, comprehensive, and strategic professional development, OFE supports faculty success in their own development as they simultaneously advance Montclair State University’s mission of broadening access to education, fostering student success, and advancing the common good through scholarship and community engagement.

Emily Isaacs also maintains tenure in the Writing Studies department. Her research has focused on writing pedagogy and assessment, and teaching, learning and administration in higher education. Professor Isaacs' scholarship is focused on best practices for writing instruction and administration, the national state of writing instruction and support at U.S. four-year universities, and teaching and learning in public higher education. Her articles have appeared in Pedagogy, College English, Writing Program Administration, Writing Center Journal, Journal of Teaching Writing, the Chronicle of Higher Education, and in several book collections. In addition, she is the author of three books, including Writing at the State U (Utah State UP). Today she is working on a book for Johns Hopkins University Press, Building Strong Students, and also writes on higher education leadership.
