As the Director of Labor Relations, Ms. Hamilton supports positive employee-labor relations including the administration and implementation of the various Collectively Negotiated Agreements at MSU. Ms. Hamilton works collaboratively with University stakeholders to ensure legal compliance with state and federal laws and regulations and manages the day-to-day emerging labor matters.
Prior to joining Montclair State University, Ms. Hamilton was in the Labor and Employment field for over ten years. More recently she served as Labor Counsel for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority where she administered and negotiated labor agreements for over 45,000 employees including agency law enforcement officers. Ms. Hamilton has experience in representing the state at administrative proceedings as well as in alternative dispute resolution.
She values her ability to build strong employer-labor relationships and partnerships that yield successful results. As an alum of Montclair State University, where she studied Justice Studies with a concentration in Child Advocacy and Psychology, she is excited to return to the community that jumpstarted her career. She regards MSU as being one very important and pivotal moment in her life. The mentorship and guidance that she received from the faculty and staff at MSU helped shape her decision to further her legal career and attend law school.
“Dr. Marilyn Tayler empowered and encouraged me to push forward in my endeavors despite my less than ideal financial circumstances. She would not allow me to give up on my dreams.”
During law school, Ms. Hamilton was a Managing Articles Editor for the Race and the Law Review where she edited and contributed to many thought-provoking timely scholarly articles that focused on the interplay of law and people of color. A Camden, NJ native Ms. Hamilton knows the importance of representation and its direct impact on the creation of opportunity. Outside of work, Carly enjoys traveling and spending time with her family.
