Eva S. Goldfarb, PhD, Professor of Public Health, is an internationally recognized expert in the field of comprehensive sexuality education (CSE). Over the past thirty years, Dr. Goldfarb has developed and led sexuality education and sexual health programs for youth, parents, educators, and other professionals and has trained thousands of current and future school teachers. In addition to an undergraduate course in "Human Sexuality," Dr. Goldfarb teaches a course entitled "Gender, Sexuality, and Health Disparities" and works with MPH students conducting their internships.

In a field dominated by a harm reduction approach that emphasizes pregnancy and disease prevention, Dr. Goldfarb’s work is notable for its focus on positive, affirming, and comprehensive approaches to human sexuality and sexuality education and for her commitment to affective learning, actively engaged democratic classrooms, social justice, and civic engagement. Her teaching is geared toward helping students understand issues of disparity, equity, and community as they relate to sexuality and gender and other factors.

In addition to presenting at conferences worldwide in the area of sexuality education and sexual health, Dr. Goldfarb has published widely. She helped to develop the National Sex Education Standards, and the National Teacher Preparation Standards for Sexuality Education in the United States. Dr. Goldfarb is lead author of the landmark study with her colleague Dr. Lisa Lieberman: "Three Decades of Research: The Case for Comprehensive Sex Education," (Journal of Adolescent Health, 2021), which provides evidence for the effectiveness of inclusive, sex-positive, social-justice focused sex education beginning in Kindergarten. She is also lead author of a Guest Opinion article in the New York Times: “After Roe, Sex Ed is Even More Vital” (July 20, 2022)
Dr. Goldfarb is co-author of several sexuality education curricula including the widely acclaimed, Rights, Respect, Responsibility; Being Out, Staying Safe (BOSS), a sexual health curriculum for LGBTQ+ youth; Making SMART Choices about Sex; My Future, My Choice; and the groundbreaking Our Whole Lives, Grades 4-6 and Grades 10-12.
For her work, Dr. Goldfarb has been awarded an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters, the Golden Brick Award for “significant contributions to the field of sexuality education throughout the nation” by the Center for Sex Education, and the Professing Excellence Award for “Outstanding Education Practices” by Montclair State University.
She has been cited, quoted, and interviewed widely for her work, including in The New York Times, The Washington Post, NPR, The BBC, Voice of America, The Atlantic, Newsweek, Education Week, USA Today, NBC TV, and The Boston Globe.
Dr. Goldfarb holds a PhD in Human Sexuality Education from the University of Pennsylvania, a Masters Degree in Communications from the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania, and a Doctor of Humane Letters (honorary) from the Starr King School for the Ministry of the Unitarian Universalist Association. She completed her Post-Doctoral Fellowship at The HIV Center for Clinical and Behavioral Studies at Columbia University and the New York State Psychiatric Institute.
