Public and Professional Writing Awards

The Writing Studies Department is excited to share our Public and Professional Writing Awards, proudly sponsored by Red Root Marketing, RushOrder Tees, and Text Power Telling, Inc.

AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN SOCIAL MEDIA WRITING SPONSORED BY JESSICA MAAREK

Amount:  $250
Criteria: Students will create a social media content calendar for the promotion of a small business or their own business. Jessica Maarek, owner and founder of Red Root Marketing and a long-time supporter of Writing Studies, is sponsoring the Excellence in Social Media award ($250). She has provided specific instructions on how to create a social media content calendar to submit for consideration. Just entering is winning because you will have the opportunity to meet with Jessica to discuss your submission and get pointers on how to write effectively for social media. AWARD FOR WRITING THAT RAISES AWARENESS OF SEXUAL TRAUMA SPONSORED BY TEXT POWER TELLING, INC.

Amount:  $250
Criteria: This writing award recognizes and honors the importance for survivors of sexual trauma to share their stories. The award will be private and recognition at the award ceremony or on the website, as well as publication in Text Power Telling magazine, will be completely up to the winner. Text Power Telling. Inc. was developed as part of the CHSS Dean’s Office Interdisciplinary Initiatives and is now an independent nonprofit.

AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN PUBLIC WRITING SPONSORED BY RUSHORDER TEES

Amount:  $300
Criteria: The public writing award celebrates writing that strives to connect, educate, and motivate others in your community and beyond. For this award, please submit a piece of writing or a multimodal composition that you believe inspires others to create change and educate others. Your submission should deal with an issue of social impact, exposing racial bias, or connecting others to fight food insecurity. Whatever issue you choose to write about, carefully consider your audience and purpose and write to inspire positive change.

Your submission should be 500-750 words and can include images. You may use one of the pieces that you have written for your PPW courses, or you may submit an original work.

AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN PROFESSIONAL WRITING SPONSORED BY RUSHORDER TEES

Amount:  $300
Criteria: The professional writing award recognizes the importance of clear and creative workplace communication. For this award, please submit writing or a multimodal composition that is valued in the professional world. You can submit works from your grant writing, business writing, business plans, or technical writing classes, or you may submit an original work.

Your submission should be 500-750 words and can include images. You may use one of the pieces that you have written for your PPW courses, or you may submit an original work.
