Spirit of 9/11 Unites Campus for Day of Service, Remembrance

Nearly 400 faculty, staff and student volunteers lent their time to help build homes, distribute food and donate school supplies for those in need.

University Welcomes ACE Fellow Mark Allman

The leadership development fellowship will allow Allman, a top administrator at Merrimack College, the opportunity to observe the work of President Koppell and other senior officers at Montclair.

  • Daniel Jean (Special Programs, EOF and Academic Success) wrote an opinion piece for the USA Today network that asks whether capitalism and commercialism ruined hip-hop and rap as art forms.
  • John Smallwood (Biology) is quoted in this Associated Press article about phone apps that allow users to identify bird sounds – also called “birding by ear.”
  • Stephanie Silvera (Public Health) spoke to Newsday about the CDC now recommending the new COVID-19 vaccine for everyone 6 months and older.

Upcoming Events

  • The Red Hawk Pantry is accepting donations of reusable shopping bags until September 29. Donation bins are located in the Student Center Annex, Room 113; Cole Hall, Center for Community Engagement, Room 348; and the Overlook Corporate Center, 3rd floor, front desk.
  • Science Hall will be formally renamed in honor of former University President Irvin D. Reid next Wednesday, September 20 at 4 p.m. Register, and if you wish, make a gift to the Irvin D. Reid African American Studies Award scholarship.
  • Campus Recreation invites employees and their guests to a special deal on Montclair State University Day at Yankee Stadium on Saturday, September 23. Attendees will receive a Yankees cap with the Montclair hawk logo, a hot dog and a drink with ticket purchase. Please note that transportation is NOT provided.
  • The American Red Cross will be on campus for a blood drive on Monday, September 25. Click here to schedule an appointment.
  • Occupational Health Services is partnering with Atlantic Health System to provide mammography screenings on Tuesday, September 26. Transportation will be provided to and from the appointment, with pick up at Blanton Hall, Lot 17. The shuttle will depart at 12 p.m. and return at 2 p.m. Atlantic Health System will coordinate costs with your insurance. Participants will receive a boxed lunch.   • Homecoming 2023 is Saturday, Sept. 30! With food, music, student performances, a street fair and the Homecoming football game, it’s a day not to miss. Visit the Homecoming website to register and find more information.
