Career Fair Draws More Than 500 Students, Alumni

The event, hosted by the Center for Career Services, featured more than 60 employers from many industries, including health care, technology, education, law enforcement and business.

• Charlotte Kent (Art and Design) wrote an essay for Aperture.org about how AI might transform photography.
• Jeremy Lopez (English) wrote a letter published in The New Yorker, in response to an article about the decline of humanities majors at colleges and universities.
• Elizabeth Wishnick (Political Science and Law) is quoted in this article published by the AFP global news service about Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Russia. The article was picked up by news publications around the world.
• Stephanie Silvera (Public Health) is quoted in this NJ.com article about New Jersey’s $75 million at-home COVID-19 test kit distribution program from 2021. Silvera was also interviewed by Fox 5 New York about a deadly, drug-resistant fungus that the CDC says is spreading at an alarming rate.
• Emily Isaacs (Office of Faculty Excellence) is quoted in The Chronicle of Higher Education in an article about how faculty members are navigating AI applications like ChatGPT.
• Jason Williams (Justice Studies) offered commentary for an NJ Spotlight News story about how the death of Najee Seabrooks at the hands of Paterson police has raised questions about police intervention during mental health crises.

Reminders

• The University Chorale will perform Gabriel Faure’s Requiem with the New Jersey Symphony later this month. Performances will take place at NJPAC in Newark on March 30 and March 31 and at the State Theatre in New Brunswick on April 2. Employees may purchase tickets for $10 with promo code MSU10. Enter the promo code before selecting seats on the symphony’s website.
• On Monday, March 27 the College of the Arts will host a reception and artist talk about blindness and art with two visually impaired artists from 5:30 – 8 p.m. in the Finley Gallery.
• Join the salute honoring Captain Paul Giardino, who is retiring from the University Police Department after 27 years of service. Gather at Police Headquarters on March 31 at 2:30 p.m., for a final salute and applause to In case of inclement weather, the event will be held at the Athletics Annex.
• Don’t miss Ombres Portées, on stage at the Alexander Kasser Theater through March 26. It tells a story of an energetic but wounded young woman looking for answers on a Kafkian quest for identity. For more information and to purchase tickets visit PEAK Performances.
• It’s time for our annual cybersecurity training. Check your emails for information and registration instructions.
• If you suffered property damage or other losses from Hurricane Ida in September 2021, the State of New Jersey has programs designed to help. For more information visit www.nj.gov/idaprograms.
• This year, we will have three Commencement exercises at Prudential Center in Newark on May 23. If you are a volunteer staff member working the event or a faculty or staff member participating in the processional, please follow those links to register. Regalia will be provided, but you must order your regalia by March 31. Check email for more information.
• 25Live, which enables the University to optimize the use of classrooms, meeting rooms and other spaces available on campus, will soon be used as the University calendar on montclair.edu. Make sure your events get listed! Learn how by registering for online or in-person training.
• You now have access to print and download your 2022 W-2 form in Workday.
• The Employee Assistance Program provides free, confidential support services for University employees and their families – including locating resources for substance abuse, mental health and self-help. For more information, see the attached CONCERN brochure.
• Worried about a student’s well being? Please refer them to Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS).
