Discoveries in Japan

Professors Carlos Molina (Biology) and Mika Munakata (Mathematics)spent nine weeks in Japan this summer, giving underrepresented students the opportunity to study abroad and conduct research with world-renowned Japanese researchers.

More than 300 campus volunteers commemorated the National Day of Service and Remembrance with service projects both on and off campus.



Shedding Light on Dark Matter

Assistant Professor Kent Leung (Physics and Astronomy) was awarded a grant to research the neutron’s electric dipole moment, which may illuminate fundamental physics problems.

Strength in Unity

Staff, faculty and students kicked off Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month on campus with a processional and a flag raising. This year’s theme is “Unidos: Inclusivity for a Stronger Nation.”

Reminders

  • You can check the COVID-19 Dashboard to find the latest campus COVID data, including case numbers.
  • The University requires faculty and staff with access to student educational data to undergo yearly training in the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). See your University email for information. The deadline to complete the training is Wednesday, October 12.
  • Planned network maintenance on Wednesday, September 28 from 6-10 p.m. may result in a four-hour outage on Banner services (including NEST). See your email for more information.
  • OIT will be upgrading Single Sign On (SSO) and our DUO Multi Factor Authentication services between 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 29 and 7 p.m. on Friday, September 30. Some University systems may have intermittent interruptions during this time. See your email for more information.
  • Health Promotion is offering an online meditation session on Mondays beginning September 26. Participants will learn how to incorporate practicing mindfulness meditation into daily life to reduce stress.

  • To Yang Deng (Earth and Environmental Studies), who was recognized at the 2022 International Water Association (IWA) World Water Congress & Exhibition with a gold Project Innovations Award, recognizing excellence and innovation in water management, research and technology in the category of “Breakthroughs in Research and Development.”
  • To Teresa Fiore (Italian and Italian American Studies) who participated in a meeting with Italy’s Ministry of Education Patrizio Bianchi at the Italian Consulate in New York City.
  • To Jennifer Yang (Psychology), who received the Administrative Supplements to Recognize Excellence in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) Mentorship Grant from the National Institute of Health (NIH).
  • To Steve McCarthy (Communication and Media) whose film Eva’s Promise made it into the Montclair Film Festival and will be screened at The Clairidge on October 26 and 27.
