Support for Local News

With funding from Google, CCM Research Director Sarah Stonbely will lead a project to assess the news and information needs of three New Jersey communities. Get the scoop here.

COVID Update

Learn about the new Omicron variant from our experts, and find out how many cases we’ve had on campus recently.

In the News

  • Evan Matthews (Exercise Science) was again quoted in USA Today – this time in a story about post-Thanksgiving meal recovery and why you shouldn’t feel guilty about having that second slice of pumpkin pie.
  • Patricia Matthew (English) is quoted in this Chicago Tribune column that explores why Hollywood is so obsessed with the ultra-rich (think Succession, Spencer and House of Gucci).
  • Stephanie Silvera (Public Health) talked to WHYY about COVID activity in New Jersey schools.
  • Stephanie Murray (Center for Cooperative Media) appeared on NJ Spotlight News with Briana Vannozzi to discuss the possible sale of Lee Enterprises (owner of The Press of Atlantic City) to hedge fund Alden Global Capital.
  • Ali Boak (Global Center on Human Trafficking) was quoted in this New Jersey Monitor article about new bipartisan bills that aim to protect victims of human trafficking.

Kudos

  • To our students and to the staff in the Office of Civic and Voter Engagement, whose commitment to voting led to Montclair State winning the Ballot Bowl this year.
  • To Assistant Public Health Professor Dr. Sze Lan Liu, who received the 2021 Ada Beth Cutler Fellowship for the project “Examining the impact of neighborhood gentrification trajectories on health and educational outcomes: Los Angeles, CA, and Montclair, NJ.”
  • To Assistant Professor Karl Nussbaum of the School of Communication and Media for completing the new film Ghosts in the Cloud Forest, which will be part of an upcoming exhibition in China.

Reminders

Faculty are required to honor a student’s preferred name and pronouns. Here’s a resource guide from the LGBTQ Center of ways to make our students feel more comfortable in the classroom.
