Theatre and Dance Announces Performance Slate
“Unmasked!” features year of in-person, student-centered productions open to the public

The Department of Theatre and Dance at Montclair State University has announced “Unmasked!” the department’s slate of 11 student productions for the 2021-2022 academic year.
Returning to the stage for productions that will welcome an in-person audience for the first time in nearly two years, students will be performing works covering the broad spectrum of dramatic and choreographic literature, including timeless classics and contemporary genres.
Each project is directed and/or choreographed by resident or guest artist directors and choreographers and performed by the department’s Theatre and Dance majors. Students from the John J. Cali School of Music will join several performances throughout the year, creating professional-caliber opportunities for students in Montclair’s College of the Arts.
“The Department of Theatre and Dance offers performance opportunities for hundreds of students each year,” says Randy Mugleston, chairperson of the Department of Theatre and Dance. “We offer a wide variety of productions to immerse our students in the practical and artistic work of acting, musical theatre and dance. By having patrons join us for live productions, it gives our students the real-world experience needed to be prevailing in the industry.”
The fall semester will feature five performances, beginning with a three-night run of As You Like It, and including The Last Days of Judas Iscariot; Fall Dance; a three-night production honoring the 25th anniversary of the critically acclaimed Rent; and a New Works Initiative titled, The Names We Gave Him. The spring semester schedule will include six productions and will begin with Dance Makers, Head Over Heels, and will include week-long productions of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, Spring Dance, The Big Meal and Stephen Sondheims’ Into The Woods.
All productions will be held on the campus of Montclair State University.
