Visiting Student Checklist

Summer and Winter Sessions welcomes students enrolled in other colleges and universities. Students currently enrolled in good academic standing at a regionally accredited college or university other than Montclair State University, and students who are accepted by other regionally accredited colleges or universities to begin their studies in the fall semester are eligible to become Visiting Students and register for Summer Sessions.

  • Complete your Undergraduate Visiting Student Information Form (no transcript required). Visiting Students and Non-degree Students must complete and submit the Visiting Student Information Form in order to be eligible to register for classes. Once the application is complete, a decision will be sent, via email, within 24-48 hours. Be sure to complete the form at least 3-days prior to the course start date in order to be eligible to register in time.
    • Visiting Student: An undergraduate student who is currently enrolled at an accredited college or university who DOES NOT have a degree.
    • Non-degree Student: An applicant who is not interested in pursuing an undergraduate degree but are interested in taking one or two credit-bearing courses.To qualify for non-degree admission, you must have received a high school diploma or its equivalency prior to you submitting your application.
  • Visiting Graduate Student Information Form
    Students who have completed a bachelor’s degree, general non-degree students or professional non-degree students. Visit the Graduate School for additional details on these student classifications.
  • Register for Your Course
    • Registration may be completed up to and including the first day of the course as long as the course is open. Register early to decrease the possibility of being closed out of classes; the University cannot guarantee a student’s preferred schedule. Upon initial registration for a course(s) offered during Winter Session or Summer Sessions, Visiting Students are charged a one- time $25 processing fee.

Email/NetID

After registering for your course, all visiting students must set up their NetIDs as soon as possible. This will:

  • Give you a unique electronic identity for access to university online services, including email
  • Set up your email account so that you can:
    • Receive vital university communications
    • Gain off-campus access to library databases and other resources
    • Gain access to Canvas. Canvas is used to access your course.

Paying Your Bill

You may pay your bill in person or online with cash, check, money order, E-check, or credit card. For information about our payment plans and paying your term bill, go to the payment options section of the Office of Student Accounts website.

Parking on Campus

Visiting students may purchase a parking permit for Winter Session by visiting the Parking Services office.

Student ID

Students registered at Montclair State University are required to carry a valid Montclair State University ID Card while on campus. The University ID Card is necessary for such things as borrowing library materials, admittance into residence halls, dining facilities, computer labs, pool, gym, participating in student activities, and residence meal plans. University Bookstore

You can buy your textbooks, computers, software, clothing, supplies and more at the University Bookstore.

To purchase textbooks, visit the Bookstore, located on the firsts floor of the Student Center, Monday through Saturday, or you go online.  Online ordering is easy and convenient if you know your class schedule and semester. Here’s how to order:

  • Once you select the appropriate program and term, the bookstore website will help you select your department, course, and section.
  • Once you select the right class, the site will display a list of required and recommended textbooks for that class.
  • Put your books in your shopping cart and continue to order your books for each of your classes.
