Montclair State University Joins National Student Exchange!
Posted in: Study Abroad
In Summer 2018, Montclair State University became a member of the National Student Exchange (NSE). Through this academic exchange program, students are able to study away at over 160 colleges and universities throughout the United States, including Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam and also in Canada. Established in 1968, NSE has arranged exchange opportunities for more than 120,000 students. Students can choose from diverse university settings literally spanning the USA, from islands to big cities, including Hispanic Serving and Historically Black Colleges and Universities, with a wide array of courses, programs, field experiences and internships. Member institutions range in size from large flagship research universities to outstanding small liberal arts colleges. Students can stay for one semester or a full academic year.
Providing an opportunity for students to engage and study with college students in another part of the country has been a long time vision of Dr. Karen Pennington, Montclair State University’s Vice President for Student Development and Campus Life. She recognized that not every student can go to another country to participate in an exchange program, and the NSE provides another very appealing and accessible option.
“We know that immersive exchanges like this can be absolutely life changing for students, and we encourage every student to challenge themselves beyond the boundaries of what’s comfortable and familiar. Experiencing part of your college career in a different location can open up your mind and heart to new ways of being, new interests, new possibilities, and sometimes even a new sense of vision for your life,” said Dr. Pennington.
The NSE program at Montclair State University is administered by the Office of International Engagement in partnership with the Division of Student Development and Campus Life. This collaboration ensures that students will be able to find support, resources and an ongoing commitment to their success, through every facet of their time while on Montclair State’s campus, and when studying away in the USA.
Montclair State students are eligible to participate from their sophomore year. Students pay Montclair State tuition (In-State for NJ residents regardless of destination) and can use federal and state financial aid. The application deadline for Fall 2019 is February 1
