News Students Can Use

In Case of an Emergency

Learn about how we communicate if there is an emergency on campus.

Posted in: Featured News, Safety

Montclair State University is committed to providing a safe environment. One of the ways we do so is by communicating promptly with you during an emergency. All of the information below pertains to both the Montclair and Bloomfield campuses. We also keep families informed via our family portal, CampusESP.

Text Alerts

Text messages are the primary way that Montclair State University notifies students and employees about emergency situations and other important information, such as road closures. All students’ mobile phone numbers are automatically added to our texting system, Rave Mobile Safety. Keep your phone number up to date in NEST to ensure you will get these important alerts.

Social Media

The University also posts emergency alerts on social media. We encourage you to follow the accounts below!

Email

During emergencies, we will send an email to your Montclair email with details, following the Rave text alert, in most situations. The University also sends regular email newsletters with important information. Please check and read your Montclair email account every day!

Most alerts will also be posted as a popup along with a link to a news article on the Montclair State University website.

University Police

The Montclair State University Police Department (UPD) is an autonomous, fully certified and operational law enforcement agency that serves both campuses. UPD is charged with the enforcement of all state and local laws, as well as University rules and regulations. UPD also offers programs and services to promote public safety, crime prevention and community awareness. Learn More about UPD and Follow Them on IG!

Emergency Response Drills

Montclair State University regularly participates in emergency response drills led by UPD and local law enforcement. These drills test and ensure a coordinated emergency response plan with police and fire departments in the community.
