Important FERPA Information
Know Your Rights: The Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

In compliance with federal regulations, this notification is to inform students of their rights regarding privacy and access to personal information under the provisions of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
The University will not release information regarding a student’s educational record without the student’s permission as defined here: Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). In certain circumstances the student may wish to allow their parent, spouse or guardian to have access to some, or all of their educational record. For such requests the student can follow the guidelines for setting up “Proxy” access, as desired.
Directory Information
Institutions may disclose the following student information (called “Directory Information”) without violating FERPA: student name, major field of study, participation in officially recognized activities and sports, weight and height of members of athletic teams, dates of attendance, photographs, degrees and awards received including dean’s list status, most recent previous school attended, date of degree conferment, career (UG/GR), status (full-time or part-time) and classification (freshman, sophomore, junior, senior, pre-articulated, provisionally matriculated, matriculated, etc.). Primary address and/or email address will be shared with designated vendors providing the following external services to graduating students: Information about purchasing class rings, yearbooks, commencement photos.
If the student wishes to opt out of “Directory Information Release” they are asked to contact registrar@montclair.edu, prior to Friday, September 22, 2023.
