Students Riean Abugana and Brianna Balkissoon

The Center for Leadership and Engagement and the Office of Financial Aid partnered this spring to offer students the chance to win a $500.00 CashCourse scholarship. The scholarship was open to all students and in order to apply, they simply had to complete a series of modules about financial literacy on CashCourse. Riean Abugana, Brianna Balkissoon and Dylan Ferreira (not pictured) came out on top! They were chosen by a random draw out of all students enrolled in the New Student Seminar during fall 2020 and now have been awarded the scholarship money, added toward their tuition!

Freshman accounting major, Brianna Balkissoon from Bloomfield NJ, stated that financial education is important to her as she “will need it in the future,” and that “we need to learn how to understand our money for the future and learn how to save.”

Riean Abugana, a pre-major freshman, from West Orange, NJ, added that “Financial Education is critical for everyone to understand and have knowledge about. This education helps us reach our financial goals and aspirations that we want to achieve, and can allow us financial liberty in the future.”

Freshman, Dylan Ferreira, also from West Orange, NJ, summed up his views stating “I do think Financial Education is important because at some point everyone will have to deal with money and how to properly manage it. Everyone will have to learn how to pay taxes, how to save money, how to build up credit scores and much more.”
