Printing with Your Personal Device

Did you know that you can print documents from your personal computer on campus? You can upload them from home or your residence hall and pick them up on campus within 72 hours. We offer several areas to use your print allowance using the PaperCut WebPrint feature. It’s fast and easy to use! Print Today!

Speaking of Printing… As an undergraduate student you are entitled to $40.00 “virtual” dollars per fall and spring semesters to print in our public computer labs. This equates to 800 pages single-sided (simplex) or 1,142 pages double-sided (duplex) B&W. Graduate Students are allotted $50.00 “virtual” dollars. We do offer color printing in some computer labs.

Software Repository & More

Need access to JMP, Respondus Lockdown Browser, NVIVO or EndNote? Head over to the MSU Software Repository to download these titles and more today!  As of July 6, 2020, Adobe is no longer allowing complimentary access to their Creative Cloud product.

Can’t get to campus to access statistical software like SPSS at home? You can use our Virtual Computing Lab through Citrix to access SPSS, MathLab and other software. Learn More about Citrix.

Computer Labs

Montclair State University has several public computer labs and loaner laptop labs across campus that are available seven days a week. View Lab Locations and Hours.

Additionally, there are some specialized computer labs based on College or School. Please Note: Access is granted by program or major.

Check out our Computer Lab Availability before you visit the labs to stay up-to-date on how many devices are available.

Laptop Loans and WiFi Support

Information Technology has a limited supply of laptops and Verizon WiFi JetPacks for loan for the semester. If you would like to borrow a laptop or you need a WiFi Jetpack to have access to the internet at home, head over to the loaner web page.

Canvas

Canvas is used across most courses and has a lot of great features. If you would like to learn more, please check out our Montclair State University Canvas Student Orientation Course. This course is also accessible via the “Help” menu in Canvas when you log in. Eager to learn more then check out the Student Guide to Online Learning.

LockDown Browser

Some Canvas tests/quizzes may require the use of LockDown Browser. LockDown Browser is a separate web browser that needs to be downloaded and installed on your computer before taking the test or quiz that requires it. LockDown Browser helps create a restricted test taking environment. It is highly recommended to take a practice test prior to taking the graded test. Ask your course professor about a practice LockDown Browser test. For additional information regarding LockDown Browser please see the LockDown Browser section of the Canvas for Students web page.

Google Apps for Education

Montclair State University is enrolled in Google Apps for Education for email, document/file storage and the ability to create docs and spreadsheets online. Your Google Drive account allows you to store an unlimited number of files, pictures and videos. Learn More about Google Apps for Education.

Protect Your Personal Documents!

MSU File Hawk provides a secure and easy method of file exchange between students, faculty, advisors, and administration. It allows you to send one or more files (up to 10 files at once). Since March, the Registrar’s Office and Student Accounts are now accepting emails with sensitive data using this method.

NetID vs. CWID: The Acronym Smackdown

Do you get confused between NetID and CWID and what to use when? Here is a quick tip to help:

  • The NetID is a single sign-on that is used to access (almost) EVERYTHING on campus. Typically, this consists of your Last Name, First Initial of First Name and a Number (ex. Smithj1).
  • Your CWID (Campus Wide Identification) is an eight (8) digit student number that is assigned upon your enrollment at Montclair State. This number should not be shared with anyone.

The IT Service Desk is here to help you seven days a week! Whether you have an application support question, need assistance registering your device or think you have a virus on your computer. The IT Service Desk is available via phone, email or chat. Find out More about the IT Service Desk.
