Posted in: Announcements, Featured News, Parking and Shuttle
In an effort to improve wait times and traffic during the exciting periods of orientation, resident move-in and Welcome Week, the University Police Department will be controlling many of the roadways and parking areas starting Wednesday, August 21 and continuing through Friday, August 30. Please provide time for traffic, parking and navigating campus. Some lots you use regularly may be closed and some roadways may be rerouted.
Parking Directions & Tips
Orientation Parking Information
- Park for Orientation in the Red Hawk Deck. If the deck should fill, overflow parking will be routed to Lot 60 with shuttle service to campus.
- Enter campus from the Normal Avenue/College Avenue entrance. If you use other entrances you can expect to be significantly delayed in getting to orientation as we have a move-in operation occurring as well in other areas of the campus.
- Expect some delays as you approach the deck as many are arriving at the same time.
- After parking, take the Red Hawk Deck elevator to the 4th floor and proceed to the Kasser Theater exterior (attached to the Red Hawk Deck) where orientation staff will be there to greet and direct you.
- Please do not congregate within the Red Hawk Deck or the immediate exterior of the Red Hawk Deck as it causes delays for others.
- This is a “once in a student lifetime” occasion so we ask for patience and positivity!
Move In Traffic, Parking & Building Specific Information
The first goal for moving in is to get your belongings as close to the building as we can. Upon instruction you will be directed to unload your vehicle(s) likely to the passenger side or where setup is occurring. NO VEHICLE IS TO BE LEFT UNATTENDED, the driver stays with the vehicle at all times.
You will have 10 minutes to unload as we have hundreds of others to get in for the day. After unloading the vehicle(s), the driver(s) will move the vehicle to designated parking for your area. Remember: If a car is left unattended it will be ticketed and towed as, again, we have hundreds of others to get unloaded for the day.
The person remaining with belongings can then begin the process of checking in or can stay with the belongings until the driver comes back.
Remember, the goal is to get your belongings close to the building first – so do not leave the area, do not leave the car. Move-in will take time so take a deep breath, know that it is not a race and that this is a huge step in the life of a student.
- Russ and Freeman Halls: Those moving in to Russ Hall and Freeman Hall should enter campus from the Normal Avenue Entrance on to College Avenue (Campus Map). You will then make a right onto Chapin Drive and proceed until you approach Freeman Hall. Unload the vehicle, do not begin the moving process. The driver will then move the vehicle to Lots 1 or 2 across Normal Avenue from the complex area. Crosswalks are marked and align directly with Russ Hall and Freeman Hall.
- Bohn, Blanton and Stone Halls: Please use either the Carlisle Road Entrance off of Normal Avenue or the Clove Road Avenue Entrance. Proceed to follow the directional signs to Webster Road which will then take you past the Red Hawk Diner and the rear of the Student Center. From that area you will begin to receive directions to the particular building. When instructed, unload the vehicle but do not begin the moving process. This area is many times 15-20 vehicles at a time are called in and the same amount exits the area on a continuous basis. The driver will then move the vehicle to CarParc Diem after proceeding back down Webster Road and then making a right onto Carlisle Road to CarParc Diem on your left after the traffic light.
- The Heights (Machuga and Dinallo): Please use the Valley Road entrance to Yogi Berra Drive. From the Yogi Berra Museum area you will be directed to proceed to Dinallo or Machuga Heights depending on the building you will reside in. Machuga Heights, you will make a left and proceed up the hill. Dinallo Heights you will proceed straight and then make a left into Lot 23N. When prompted, you will unload your vehicle and the driver will then move the vehicle to CarParc Diem.
- Hawk Crossings: For the time of move in, you are permitted to unload in the areas adjacent to the walkways and stairs. It is not possible to park in this area and if found parked, your vehicle will be towed. Be considerate of all people moving in and needing that space to unload as well. After unloading you may park in the complex parking or Lots 27 or 28.
- Sinatra Hall and the Village: The areas adjacent to the building you are moving into are available for unloading only. Unload your vehicle and immediately then remove the vehicle to a parking area. Do not ever park blocking the roadways – many people need to move in as well as buses and emergency vehicles need to get through. For Sinatra Hall, you will enter through the Village and proceed to Lot 47. You will enter Lot 47 and proceed to the front of Sinatra Hall, at which time you will unload your vehicle. After unloading, you will park your vehicle in Lot 28. There is NO PARKING in Lot 47 at this time. Any vehicles parked and left unattended will be ticketed and towed. At the Village you will be in the marked areas surrounding the complex to unload. Officers patrolling the areas will consistently remind residents to move vehicles to parking.
Extra Time Encouraged!
It is strongly recommended that you leave enough time for traffic both on and off campus as delays can happen. Police Officers will be highly visible in the roadways directing traffic and we ask for your cooperation with our operations. Our goal is simply to get you to the destination on campus in an efficient manner.
