Donate Cans to Pay a Parking Ticket!

The Cans for Citation Food Drive Supports the Red Hawk Pantry!

This program allows Montclair State University students, faculty and staff to donate canned/non-perishable goods as payment for campus citations. Each canned, non-perishable item, dry good and personal hygiene item will be worth $10.00 toward one open citation.

The Details

  • Duration: The program runs Monday, March 18 through Friday, March 22, 2024.

When & Where

  • Parking Office: Please bring any donations Monday-Friday 8-4 p.m. to the Parking office located on Level 1 of the Red Hawk Deck.
  • Tabled Events: You can also bring items to our tabled events scheduled on:
    • Monday, March 18, 9-11 a.m., Student Center, 2nd Floor Lobby.
    • Tuesday, March 19, 1-3 p.m., Blanton Hall, Red Hawk Pantry.
    • Wednesday, March 20, 1-3 p.m., Student Center, 2nd Floor Lobby.
    • Thursday, March 21, 1-3 p.m., Blanton Hall, Red Hawk Pantry.
    • Friday, March 22, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m., Student Center, 2nd Floor Lobby.

BONUS: Get two citations removed if you bring your 2+ items to a tabled event held in the Red Hawk Pantry (March 19 or March 21).

How Does the Donation Work?

One canned or dry good is worth $10.00 toward one open citation. For example, a citation worth $50.00 may be paid using five (5) canned or dry goods items.

What to Donate

YES

  1. Non-perishable foods
  2. Healthy items, such as whole grains, low-sugar cereals and low-sodium canned goods
  3. Pantry staples: peanut butter, soup, rice and shelf-stable milk
  4. Personal hygiene products

NO

  1. Items past their expiration date (please check; you make more work for us if we have to dispose of your expired food)
  2. Dented, rusty, leaky cans or unlabeled cans
  3. Glass jars
  4. Open packages (exception: those with individually wrapped packets inside)

  1. Toilet paper/baby wipes
  2. Shampoo/conditioner
  3. Boxed cereal
  4. Bags of chip/snack
  5. Peanut butter/jelly
  6. School supplies
  7. Granola and cereal bars
  8. Mac N Cheese (both boxed and microwavable)
  9. Popcorn
  10. Applesauce / fruit cup
  11. Mayo / ketchup / mustard/salad dressings
  12. Deodorant
  13. Shaving cream
  14. Razors (unisex)
  15. Spaghetti Noodles/rotini/egg noodles/ linguine (Any pasta type)
  16. Sanitary pads
  17. Dish soap
  18. Laundry detergent
  19. Dryer sheets
  20. Canned /chili/beef stew/ravioli
  21. Can openers

Prohibited Citations

The following citations may not be dismissed as part of the program:

  • Tampering with University Equipment
  • Shared Permit or Boot Violation
  • Parking in Reserved Space, Grass, or Sidewalk
  • Parked in Fire Lane or PWD Space Violation
