This week marks an exciting addition to Career News: The Student & Alumni Spotlights Series. To kick off the series, we spoke to Maysa Sheikh, a current MBA student and Graduate Assistant in The Feliciano School of Business.
Maysa chatted with us about the importance of career services and tips and tricks for success. Maysa’s career goals post-graduation include landing a job working in software or tech, with a goal to become a data analyst, business analyst or project manager. Maysa would also like to start her own fashion company down the line!
Maysa’s Career Fair Tips:
- Have at least 10 copies of resumes on hand.
- Personalize business cards with your contact information and LinkedIn handle.
- Dress professionally.
- Being yourself! Show up as your authentic self and enjoy the experience.
Why Attend a Career Fair?
Maysa stated that the combination of so many valuable companies and students eager to connect is an amazing way to start the career hunt.
“Being able to network with people in different industries gives everyone the chance to discover what fields they are looking to get into.”
What Would You Say to a Student Who May Feel Intimidated about Attending a Career Fair?
“Everyone is in the same boat! It may seem intimidating at first, but once you get
comfortable with networking, you don’t want to stop! It’s an experience to help your personal growth. Putting yourself out there shows your courage and that is the first step to success.”
How Have You Used Career Services in Your Time Here?
“I have utilized Career Services for resume reviews, advisement, and career fairs!”
