The largest, Hispanic-owned food company; the global leader and innovator in language and content management solutions; a national educational nonprofit; a social worker and medical translator/interpreter; court interpreter; translator and teacher are among the panelists in an upcoming Career Night, sponsored by the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Spanish and Latino Studies Department. It will be held on Wednesday, November 7, 6:30-8:30 p.m., in the new Center for Computing and Information Science, Room 133 (formerly Mallory). The evening will include a Q & A with six panelists and an opportunity for students to speak with the panelists after the Q & A.

“Students will not only explore multiple career paths that incorporate Spanish language/Latino cultures – in one night – in one place, but also will also be able to interact and network with professionals actually working in these fields,” notes Dr. Raul Galoppe, Chair, Spanish and Latino Studies.

Foreign languages and literature are among the highest-paying liberal arts careers as reported by the National Association of Colleges and Employers in 2014. That same year, CNN Money also reported that translators and interpreters were “expected to be one of the 15 fastest-growing occupations” in the country.

Panelists will include:

Marcela Carlin, Buyer, Goya Foods Inc.

Wilselin Geronimo, MSW, Community Outreach Supervisor, JFK Muhlenberg Plainfield Health Connections

Windy López, Vice President, Content and Partnerships, Learning Heroes (nonprofit)

Magaly Novoa, Translation Project Manager, SDL Trados
Karola Rangel-Reategui, Statewide Court Interpreter (Spanish/English)

Vicky Santana, Coordinating Supervisor of World Languages, ESL, Art and Music (K-5), Parsippany Township Schools
