Ian Callahan, Class of 2014
Posted in: Alumni
I graduated from Montclair State in 2014 with a B.A. in sociology and a minor in musical theatre. That spring, I delivered the student address at the CHSS convocation ceremony for my graduating class. After leaving Montclair, I spent nine months in Mallorca teaching English language and culture to Spanish students. From there, I returned state-side to pursue professional opportunities in digital media. I spent two years in New York City, where I interned at Slate Magazine, helped build a digital content start-up, and gained experience at a communications consultancy. In these experiences, I found tangible connections to my undergraduate coursework, but I felt compelled by the idea of a career in sociology. I still had hopes of returning to academia to pursue a Ph.D., and fortunately, I was accepted at the University at Albany. I began my graduate coursework in Fall 2017, and I am currently specializing in queer digital culture.
