Montclair State University’s School of Communication & Media (SCM) offers an 18 credit minor in Journalism. The program complements a wide range of majors, anything from political science and history, to biology and environmental sciences, to international relations and business. If you want to understand the role that news media play in society, enhance valuable communication skills, and become a better informed citizen, this is the minor for you.
The program focuses on developing the writing, reporting, interviewing and research skills needed to deliver solid content in today’s multiplatform world. Students first take a basic writing and reporting course that is a pre-requisite that qualifies them to take courses in news editing, magazine, writing/reporting for TV and radio, the entertainment beat, New Jersey local news, and more.
The Journalism Minor curriculum comprises 18 credits (3 cr. per course) including three core requirements and a choice of three electives.
Interested students are invited to come to Morehead Hall, room 103 for an information session in order to sign up for the minor.
