WMSC Students and Recent Alumni Win Six CBI National Student Production Awards

Eleven students and recent alumni from Montclair State University’s WMSC-FM won National Student Production Awards at the College Broadcasters Inc. (CBI) national convention in Orlando on Oct. 21. The students won two firsts, a third and three fourth place awards in the following categories:
First Place:
- Best Feature News Reporting: “Administration and Campus Experience” (Terry Dickerson)
- Best Promo: “Tunes on Tuesday” (Jared Tauber, who also won Best Promo for “Tunes on Tuesday” in 2022)
Third Place:
- Best Live Production Video: “The Happy Fits” (Jared Tauber, Emily McCormack, Leslie Gallagher, Jake Goetz and Ben Petruk)
- Fourth Place:
Best Station Imaging: WMSC Sounds” (Jared Tauber, JT Bethea, Marissa Thorn and Yak Ferstenberg) - Best Regularly Scheduled Entertainment Program Audio: “The Morning Buzz” (JT Bethea & Isaias Ramirez)
- Best PSA “NJ Hike” (Marissa Thorn)
“I am grateful to WMSC for embracing me with open arms and providing such incredible resources to make me a better journalist,” Dickerson said. “To be a part of this university and having a community that supports the storytelling that I love to do is such a privilege and honor. I hope to one day give back that same support to future student storytellers.“
“WMSC has brought so much to my life, so I am delighted to honor the station by bringing home these awards,” said Tauber, who is the station’s manager. “I am grateful for the unwavering support and encouragement from WMSC and (General Manager) Anabella Poland that has allowed me to express myself and connect with many talented students at the station and the global college radio community.”
