Montclair State University is once again set to host the ReelAbilities Film Festival, the nation’s preeminent event of its kind, November 1-3.

Funded by a Kessler Foundation grant, ReelAbilities is dedicated to promoting awareness and appreciation of the lives, stories and artistic expressions of people with different abilities. The festival presents award-winning films, post-film discussions and engaging programs designed to bring the community together to explore, discuss and celebrate the diversity of our shared human experience.

“At a time when discussions about diversity and inclusion are so important in this country, recognizing the strength in diversity and challenging stereotypic notions is important,” says Montclair State Communication Sciences and Disorders Instructor Fran Prezant. “We are joining the site venues in New York, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Boston, Chicago, Portland and others to feature films selected from over 1,000 competitive submissions from an international community and reviewed by the screening committee in New York where the Festival premieres each year.

“Internally, sponsorship from the Department of Communication Sciences and Disordersmade it possible to implement ReelAbilities here as a special initiative that is designed to attract community members in addition to university students and faculty.”
