The career of legendary FM radio personality Bob Fass is the subject of "Radio Unnameable," an award-winning documentary, to be screened February 5.

Montclair State University School of Communication and Media’s Film Forum and the Montclair Film Festival are proud to host the screening of Radio Unnameable, the award-winning documentary that chronicles the career of legendary FM radio personality Bob Fass. The screening will take place on Tuesday, February 5 at 7 p.m. at University Hall, Room 1040, and is free and open to the public. A brief Q & A with Fass and the film’s directors – Paul Lovelace and Jessica Wolfson – will immediately follow the screening.

For nearly 50 years, Fass revolutionized late-night FM radio with his free-form program Radio Unnameable, a cultural hub for music, politics, and audience engagement. Long before today’s innovations in social media, Fass utilized the airwaves for mobilization, encouraging luminaries and ordinary listeners to talk openly and take the program in surprising directions. Drawing from Fass’s extraordinary personal archive of audio recordings — including interviews with Allen Ginsberg and Abbie Hoffman, and performances by Bob Dylan, Arlo Guthrie, and Carly Simon — Radio Unnameable celebrates the profoundly influential career of one of radio’s unsung heroes.

Montclair State’s Film Forum, sponsored by the film program at Montclair State University’s School of Communication and Media, is a weekly program featuring contemporary filmmakers speaking about their work and profession. Open to both University students and the general public, audience members are invited to ask questions and hear personalized inside stories from some of the most innovative filmmakers working in the field today. The screening of Radio Unnameable comes on the heels of a presentation from award-winning filmmaker Lise Raven.
