It seems there’s another side to School of Communication and Media Public Relations Coordinator Larry Weiner.  His original audio drama, “Anne Manx and the Blood Chase” has been named a finalist for top audio drama of 2014.  Sources have reported that more than 1,700 audio programs were submitted to the Audio Publishers’ Association for this year’s Audie Awards.   All the finalists’ entries will be listed on the APA site, and winners will be recognized at the Audies Gala at the New York Academy of Medicine in New York City on May 28, 2015.

“Anne Manx and the Blood Chase” is the sixth episode in Weiner’s Anne Manx series, which premiered originally on Sirius/XM Satellite Radio in 2001.  Claudia Christian, best known as Susan Ivanova in the long running syndicated science fiction drama “Babylon 5,” has played the title character since the series’ inception, and another Babylon 5 star, Patricia Tallman has starred as Anne Manx’s nemesis, Jean Richmond.  “The Blood Chase” also features “Cutting Edge” and “Lion King” star Moira Kelly.  Weiner is the creator and writer of the Anne Manx stories and all the RRCA titles.  His partner, Angelo Panetta has scored the shows, created sound effects, and edited the programs.

Each year the APA honors the best titles in audio publishing.  In 2014, more than 800 entries were submitted for judging.  Ultimately, Audies were bestowed in 31 categories including Biography/Memoir, Business, History, Non-Fiction, Audio Book of the Year and Distinguished Achievement in Production.

Formed in 1987, the Audio Publishers Association is the only awards program in the United States entirely devoted to recognizing distinction in audiobooks and spoken word entertainment.  The APA consists of audio publishing companies and allied suppliers, distributors, and retailers of spoken word products and allied fields related to the production, distribution and sale of audiobooks.

The company Weiner formed in 1995, the Radio Repertory Company of America, has been producing original audio dramas for 20 years.  His first series, “Garson Krebs: Private Eye,” was broadcast on National Public Radio in 1995 and 1996.  Over the years, Weiner has written for such stars as Kelli O’Hara, Shirley Jones, Ed Asner, Barbara Harris, Ellen Muth, Katey Sagal, Marina Sirtis, and Kris Holden Reid to name a few.  He has also won two Mark Time Awards and one Golden Headset Award for his audio drama work.
