Montclair State’s Filmmaking program of the Department of Art & Design, together with the Essex County Section of the National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW), will present the seventh annual Wonder of Women Film Festival at Montclair State University on November 22, 2009, from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

This one-day event showcases 10 short films and documentaries portraying the lives, struggles, and accomplishments of women from independent filmmakers. Viewings include:

  • “Pesya’s Necklace,” by award-winning director Jorge Gurvich.
  • “Tackle Box,” by Mathew McBane, winner of sixteen awards including the Sundance Film Festival and Tribeca Film Festival.
  • Melissa Silverstein, media consultant and writer specializing in women’s issues, will show selected film segments and lead an interactive discussion about the films and filmmaking. Her blog, “Women & Hollywood,” was recently named by More magazine as a “blog to watch.”
  • Segments from the powerful documentary “Poetry of Resilience.” Corinna Sager, founder of the production agency Lifestyle International and a participant in the filming, will lead a discussion with participants.
  • Public Service Announcements from the Montclair Arts Council Summer Program. Produced by local young talent, the filmmakers and actors will be present.
