Nov 11, 2019 @1:00pm | Nazi Scientists and the US Space Program

Posted in: Events

In his talk Dr. Roger Launius discusses the history and issues of Project Paperclip, a secret US government program that brought former Nazi scientists to America after World War II. The program was controversial, as it allowed sometimes ardently committed Nazis into the country, while sidelining American-born rocketeers, because they had flirted with Marxist ideology in the 1930s, which constituted a liability given the Cold War context. Dr. Launius maps the context, stakes and consequences of this practice, including war crimes accusations against Arthur Rudolph.
