The School Psychology Program is designed to prepare graduate students for careers as certified school psychologists. The 65-credit program provides an interdisciplinary curriculum integrating school psychology, educational psychology, counseling, multicultural psychology, special education, and direct experience in practicum and externship settings. Upon completion of the program, students are eligible for a certificate of school psychology from the state of New Jersey. Graduates are prepared for the ethical provision of professional psychological services to children and families in school settings (public and private), school-based health centers, clinics, and hospitals.
The program is nationally recognized by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) and is designed to meet the training standards of the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). NASP recognition allows a streamlined process for program graduates to obtain the Nationally Certified School Psychologist (NCSP) credential, which signifies credibility and professional excellence to employers. As a designation of distinction, recognition status also confers advantages to our program, our graduates, the profession of school psychology, and, most importantly, to children, their families, and schools.
At present, individuals without a master’s degree who wish to enroll in the certification program must also be enrolled in the MA Program in Clinical Psychology (child/adolescent concentration). Individuals with a prior master’s degree in a related field may apply to the certification program only.
For additional information about the program, please review our Graduate Student Handbook. The program curriculum can be accessed in the Graduate Catalog.
