Profile
Professor Opperman has been teaching at Montclair State University since 2011. During that time he has taught courses on Music Theory/Composition, Music Business, Classical and Popular Music History, and Music Technology. Although his Music Business courses are only required of the Jazz Studies majors, he strongly recommends that Performance and Composition majors also take the Intro Music Business course in their last semester of study.
As a composer, Opperman has released six full-length albums of original music through his independent Purple Cow Records label including 2020's Chamber Music from Hell, a contemporary classical concept album about a posthuman civilization and the music that follows. His CD's have sold in over twenty countries and he has hundreds of performances around the world to his name. In addition to his own music, Opperman has performed on two Grammy-nominated recordings with legendary guitarist Steve Vai and Holland's Metropole Orkest. Opperman's orchestration of Vai's signature song "For the Love of God" has over 40 million views on YouTube.
Before coming to Montclair State, Opperman held posts at Universal Music Publishing Group and GSO Business Management, LLC, where he helped guide the careers of many music industry luminaries.
