Profile
Professor George Hoehmann is an adjunct professor of Religion offering general education courses in religion including Comparative World Religions, Introduction to Religion and Religion and Culture. Professor Hoehmann studied for the Roman Catholic priesthood attending Cathedral College of the Immaculate Conception located in Douglaston, Queens New York obtaining a BA in Philosophy completing his thesis on the just war theory.
He attended St. Joseph's Seminary in Yonkers New York and was ordained in 1991. He obtained a Masters in Divinity (M.Div.) and an Masters in Theology with a specialization in Church History. His thesis entitled "My Eminent Friend in New York: Francis Cardinal Spellman and the Second Vatican Council" has been cited in numerous articles and books as his research in the Archives of the Archdiocese of New York uncovered previously lost to history material by famed Jesuit theologian John Courtney Murray on religious liberty. While at St. Joseph's Seminary Professor Hoehmann also received a BA in Theology from the University of St. Thomas in Rome, Italy by affiliation. After several years in the ministry Professor Hoehmann left the priesthood and began a twenty-one year career in not-for-profit administration working with people with disabilities. He also serves as an elected official in New York.
In addition to his public service, Professor Hoehmann has served on several boards of not for profits and government agencies. In addition to serving as an adjunct professor at Montclair, Professor Hoehmann has served as an Adjunct at Bergen Community College since 2000, Felician University and the former Rockland Country Day School.
On June 30, 2022, Professor Hoehmann was nominated for a New York Emmy Award by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences as Host and Executive Producer of "Faith Matters" in the Religion category. The program is a talk show with a panel discussion among three religious leaders moderated by Professor Hoehmann discussing issues of concern and is broadcast by the Town of Clarkstown government access channel. Episodes are located on the Town of Clarkstown Youtube Channel. In June of 2023, Professor Hoehmann was nominated for two additional New York Emmy Awards by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences as Host and Executive Producer of "Hoehm Town Happenings Special Veterans Day Edition" focusing on veterans contributing to society after military service. Professor Hoehmann writes a weekly column on current events for the Rockland County Times, Hosts a monthly radio show on WRCR 1700AM and is a frequent guest on various news outlets.

My Eminent Friend In New York: Francis Cardinal Spellman and the Second Vatican Council
Master's Thesis that uncovered previously lost to history documents prepared by famed Jesuit theologian John Courtney Murray on religious liberty. John Courtney Murray was a previously silenced theologian whom Cardinal Spellman requested and had appointed to serve as his expert at the Second Vatican Council. The work of Murray was instrumental in leading to a significant change in Roman Catholic teaching on religious liberty with the adoption of the Declaration on Religious Freedom "Dignitatis Humanae."
