Peter Herbst, MSW, LCSW, has a post-graduate certificate in Marriage and Family Studies from the New Jersey Center for Family Studies and a Master’s degree in social work from the Wurzweiler School of Social Work, NY. Mr. Herbst is a full-time instructional specialist at the Department of Social Work and Child Advocacy at Montclair State University. He also maintains a private practice in marriage and family therapy. His teaching and private practice reflect his interest in child abuse, family violence and trauma. He has extensive teaching experience at MSU, having started in 2007 as an adjunct professor. He continued in this capacity until 2019 when he transitioned to instructional specialist. He currently teaches four courses in the MSW program, including Child Abuse and Neglect, Trauma Treatments, Clinical Social Work Practice and Field Education Seminar. Mr. Herbst also previously served as an adjunct professor in the Department of Public Administration at Saint Peter’s University, Jersey City, NJ. In addition to his teaching experience, Mr. Herbst has extensive community experience. He served as the executive director of the Hudson County Child Abuse Prevention Center for 23 years and served in administrative capacities for 13 years for three other community organizations. Mr. Herbst also wrote a parenting column, Parenting with Pete, for The Jersey Journal, a daily newspaper in Hudson County, NJ.
