Sheriff Richard Berdnik

It is with a heavy heart that the Montclair State University community shares our deepest condolences for the family, friends, and colleagues of Passaic County Sheriff Richard Berdnik. 

Sheriff Berdnik was a longtime advocate of the university, facilitating support for our police department throughout his career.  He understood the unique role that police officers serve at a university and the value of building strong relationships in the community. We could always count on him to offer his assistance during the most critical and challenging times on our campus, delivering officers, resources, and aid when we needed it most. 

Our thoughts are with his wife, Monica, and his entire family, including his son, Kevin, and son-in-law, Stephen, who previously served with our University Police Department. To say Sheriff Berdnik’s presence will be missed at Montclair is an understatement.
