I am deeply saddened by the loss of a true leader, whose commitment to the people of Paterson and New Jersey was readily apparent to all who interacted with him. Bill Pascrell’s numerous accomplishments and contributions are well-known to elected officials and journalists. What struck me about him was his sheer joy for the job, the opportunity to represent New Jerseyans in the U.S Congress. He relished the chance to make a difference in this way, and still loved interacting with constituents young and old. A lifelong Paterson resident, a 27 year veteran of Congress and a veteran of the U.S. Army, Bill was a role model for his community and a model of what elected public service can look like. The image of Congressman Pascrell respectfully, and intently, engaging student artists at the annual presentation awards at Montclair State University is etched upon my brain. My condolences go out to his family and to all those who cherished him.
