Welcome from President Koppell

I’m honored to serve as the ninth president of Montclair State University.

Everything we do here is governed by an unwavering commitment to our mission: creating transformational opportunities for all members of our community. And I firmly believe that this goal extends well beyond our campus borders.

As a public-serving institution, we have an ethical obligation to partner with our communities around us to solve pressing societal challenges. Public service is ingrained in every aspect of what we do because universities, when utilized properly, have the power and resources to bring about lasting change that benefits all people.

Education has always been vital to the success of our democratic society. Preparing the next generation of engaged, civic-minded leaders is and always will be a priority for this institution.

At Montclair, we are innovating and emerging as a leader among the top tier of US doctoral research universities. We prioritize academic excellence, with highly-ranked program offerings and an updated curriculum focused on developing job-ready skills. Our faculty are leaders in their fields, working across disciplines to provide the best experience possible for our students.

This community is stronger as a result of having some many different people who share their experiences, ideas and skills with each other. Every day I look around the campus and see students, faculty and staff sharing a sense of belonging that few other universities have.
