Food and agriculture policy is one of the most divisive issues in Congress – but not necessarily between Democrats and Republicans. It’s about where you’re from, and it’s about a lot more than farming. In fact, the biggest part of the U.S. agriculture policy isn’t about farmers at all – it’s about food stamps the help low-income families buy food.

Marc Heller graduated from the State University of New York at Oswego in 1990 with a bachelor’s degree in English. He received a master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University in 1993. Heller has been a reported for newspapers in upstate New York and Virginia, and was the Washington correspondent for the Watertown Daily Times from 1997 to 2012. He now covers agriculture and forest issues for E&E New, an environmental and energy subscription news service in Washington, D.D., following news in Congress and reporting from the field.
