AI scams on April 1st? This bot lies on purpose!
Posted in: News

April 1st is all about harmless pranks and good-natured fun, but do you know who really loves tricking people? Cybercriminals. And with AI-powered scams on the rise, it’s easier than ever to fall for a convincing fake.
AI Scams: Fooling More Than Just the Gullible
Cybercriminals now use AI to:
- Clone voices – They might sound just like a friend or professor.
- Fake emails and messages – AI makes phishing attempts scarily realistic.
- Deepfake videos – Can you trust that urgent message?
Don’t Get Tricked! Stay Safe With These Tips:
- Verify before you trust – If something sounds too weird or too urgent, confirm it another way (call the person directly).
- Watch for odd wording – AI-generated messages can be eerily close to normal but often feel just a little off.
- Be skeptical of unexpected requests – If someone asks for money, gift cards, or sensitive info—pause and think before you act.
- Enable multi-factor authentication (MFA) – Even if a scammer gets your password, MFA adds an extra layer of security.
This April Fools’, don’t let cybercriminals have the last laugh. Stay sharp, stay skeptical, and if you spot something suspicious, report it to the Phish Files! To report to the Phish Files use the Knowbe4 PAB button or forward the email to phishfiles@montclair.edu.
