U.S. News & World Report Ranks Montclair State Online Graduate Programs Among Best in the Country
Educational Leadership program ranked No. 1 in New Jersey and No. 15 in nation in 2021 rankings

Montclair State University’s online Master of Arts in Educational Leadership program is ranked No. 1 in New Jersey and No. 15 in the nation – up 10 spots from 2020 – in the U.S. News & World Report 2021 Best Online Programs rankings. The program also ranked among the top 20 in the nation in the rankings’ specialty area results for Educational Administration and Supervision, moving up three spots to No. 19.
Two other online graduate programs offered by Montclair State also placed among the nation’s best in the annual rankings.
The University’s Master of Science in Information Technology with a concentration in Applied Information Technology (Professional Science Master’s) is now ranked No. 56 in the nation, while Montclair State’s online Master of Business Administration (MBA) program continued its climb up the rankings to No. 79 (up nine spots from 2020).
U.S. News program rankings are based on scores from five categories – student engagement, services and technologies, student excellence, faculty credentials and training, and opinions of academic experts.
“These rankings once again highlight Montclair State University’s ability to deliver a nationally prominent, accessible education in any delivery mode,” says Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Willard Gingerich. “They affirm that when a student commits to an online program at Montclair State, they are pursuing industry-leading credentials – while perhaps also continuing to build professional experience – at a distinguished public research university dedicated to their advancement in their respective industries.”
Montclair State also offers several other online graduate degree and certificate options designed to equip working professionals with career-enhancing skills.
The University’s Master of Science degree in Sustainability Science integrates industry-related coursework with opportunities for business and leadership skill development. Montclair State’s online Master of Science in Nursing prepares registered nurses (RNs) for advanced practice in administration, education and clinical research.
A fully online Master of Arts in Child Advocacy and Policy prepares professionals for career advancement, and the University’s low-residency Master of Fine Arts in Dance uniquely combines on-ground studio work with online theory and research. Other offerings include a Master of Science in Business Analytics, and a Pre-licensure MSN program for non-nursing college graduates.
Graduate certificate options including Virtual Learning for Students with Disabilities, K-12 Computer Science Teaching, Gifted and Talented Education and Computing Technology are also available for those who may already have an advanced degree but want to build out or update skills that can enhance their career goals.
