Student Advisement

Students who need general advising and academic planning should see their faculty advisors prior to any registration periods.  A student can find out who his or her faculty advisor is by logging into his or her account in Student Services and clicking on My Advisor.

During registration periods, students who need authorizations or permits to register for classes should send an email to: nutritionpermit@montclair.edu

Each member of the Department of Nutrition and Food Studies advisement team has specific responsibilities.  The advisement team consists of:

The Student:

Students are responsible for reviewing their degree audit regularly (the degree audit is available through NEST).  The degree audit lists the courses required for the completion of a degree.  Students should also review the Montclair State University Handbook (available on the University website) to familiarize themselves with the University’s academic policies.

The CCHL Student Success Center:

The College for Community Health (CCHL) Student Success Center should always be a student’s first stop for academic advising. Student Success Center advisors can assist students in choosing courses, changing majors, adding minors and renewing degree progress. The CCHL Student Success Center, located in University Hall, Suite 1180, is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome; no appointment is necessary.

The Faculty Advisor:

Each student in the department is assigned a faculty advisor (see below).  Faculty advisors can assist students in choosing courses, reviewing degree progress and processing credit adjustments.  They can also be valuable sources of advice and information about future career directions.  Each advisor has posted office hours for drop-in or is available by appointment.  You can find out who your faculty advisor is by logging into your account in Student Services and clicking on My Advisor.

Undergraduate Faculty Advisors include:

Nutrition and Food Science – Applied

Nutrition and Food Science – Dietetics

Nutrition and Food Science – Sustainable Food Systems

Nutrition and Food Science – Food Science

  2. Students who will be graduating within two semesters
  3. Students who have not been able to create a full schedule during a registration period
  4. Students who need advising during the months of June, July and August
  5. Nutrition and Food Science minors.

The Department Administrator is available to meet with students who meet the above criteria on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Otherwise, continuing students should see their faculty advisors for general advising and visit the Student Success Center.
