Now through the end of July, Montclair State University’s incoming class of new students – the Class of 2019 – is learning about campus life, resources and their chosen programs of study at The Red Hawk 411, the University’s first-year student orientation program.

Beginning this year on June 23 with orientation for Honors Program students, 15 orientation days are scheduled through July 29 giving first-year students the opportunity to attend The Red Hawk 411 event of their college, school or program of choice.

The Class of 2019 is the largest incoming class in Montclair State history with more than 3,300 students putting down deposits to attend this fall. According to Jeffrey Indiveri-Gant, director of Undergraduate Admissions, the University also received more applications than ever before – 11,940 – a 10.7 percent increase over last year.

Size, however, is not the only distinguishing characteristic of the incoming class. “This incoming class of freshmen is distinct,” says Indiveri-Gant. “They are more engaged, connected to each other, and ready for Montclair State than ever. We are excited to see them grow here.”

The first class to be admitted under the new SAT/ACT optional practice, Indiveri-Gant says the Class of 2019 is more geographically diverse than ever before with more students coming from South Jersey and out-of-state. They also seem eager to get started: they put in their deposits earlier than any class in recent memory and the class Facebook page already has nearly 2,000 “likes.”
