On Thursday, September 11, the 13th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Montclair State University will remember the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives on that day in 2001. Tribute will be paid as well to the families and friends whose lives were forever shaped by loss, and to the countless others who helped lead a stunned and grieving nation forward.

At 8:46 a.m., the College Hall carillon will play “America the Beautiful,” followed by bugle taps, to mark the moment the first plane flew into the North Tower of the World Trade Center,

At 9:03 a.m., to note the time that the second plane flew into the World Trade Center’s South Tower, the carillon will play “God Bless America.” Again, taps will follow.

At 2:30 p.m., the Department of Campus Recreation will lead students on a Remembrance Hike to recall the victims of 9/11. The short, three-mile hike through Eagle Rock Reservation will end at the 9/11 memorial site overlooking New York City. Tickets are available at the Student Recreation Center.

On Saturday, September 13, University students, faculty, staff and alumni are invited to join together to honor the heroes of 9/11 in the Sixth Annual National Day of Service and Remembrance. The service day begins in the morning and offers numerous on- and off-campus community service opportunities. To learn more, or to register, go to National Day of Service and Remembrance.
