Montclair State University Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Junius Gonzales has been named to the American Association of University Administrators’ (AAUA) Board of Directors.

Gonzales is one of five new members appointed to the Board, filling vacant positions.

The AAUA is a nonprofit organization for higher education leaders at all types of American higher education institutions (two-year, four-year, public, private nonprofit, private for-profit). The organization’s mission is to advance superior standards for the profession of higher education administration. Through programs and services, the Association provides opportunities for the professional development of its members.

“I am pleased to be able to contribute to AAUA’s mission of providing administrators in higher education with the best tools to succeed,” says Gonzales. “What we do as leaders and administrators can impact the entire higher education profession, and I am honored to have the opportunity to serve in advancing that mission for AAUA.”

Gonzales leads the University’s 13 colleges and schools as the second-highest ranking officer, overseeing academic programs for teaching, research, scholarship and creative inquiry and is responsible for academic planning, initiatives in teaching and learning, and faculty and academic staff development. Over the course of an illustrious 30-year career, he has worked as a faculty member, researcher, consultant and senior administrator. As a member of the AAUA Board of Directors, Gonzales will bring extensive experience as a leader in higher education.

“We are pleased and honored to welcome these new appointees to the Board of Directors. Their vast experiences in higher education and enthusiasm will bring fresh views and perspectives to the board, and we appreciate their willingness to serve,” says AAUA President and CEO Dean Hoke. “The Executive Committee and I look forward to working together to advance the mission of AAUA.”
