As big data transforms strategy, Montclair State is taking a leading role in preparing graduates with the deep analytical and data-mining skills companies demand with its Master of Science in Business Analytics (MSBA).
“The velocity, veracity, variety and volume” of big data are opening doors on new approaches to understanding the world and making business decisions, says Rashmi Jain, chair and professor in the Department of Information Management and Business Analytics at the Feliciano School of Business.
Montclair State’s program is at the forefront in meeting the growing demand for business analytics professionals to increase effectiveness and efficiency, especially in such critical business sectors as health care, transportation and cybersecurity.
The job market for business professionals with analytics expertise is expected to increase every year for the foreseeable future. In fact, according to a report from McKinsey Global Institute, the U.S. is experiencing a huge shortage of managers and analysts capable of developing actionable insights from big data.
Montclair State graduates pursue job opportunities across a spectrum of industries, including consumer research, finance, marketing, supply chain, health care, risk prediction, security, fraud detection, retail sales analysis, market research and insurance analysis. Business analytics professionals are also serving as internal consultants on a range of projects within their organizations.
The University’s innovative program presents deep analytics content with an emphasis on its application in diagnosing business problems, developing actionable recommendations and communicating with business leaders. It is one of only two New Jersey institutions offering the master’s degree in Business Analytics.
MSBA program features include:
- Ten-course/30-credit program designed for full- or part-time study; can be completed in 18-24 months
- A strong foundation in data analytics, statistical and predictive modeling, structured/unstructured data analysis, enterprise architecture, data management, knowledge discovery, pricing analytics, analytical reporting, segmentation analysis and data visualization
- Introduction to a global network of experts and employers
- Emphasis on diagnosing business problems, developing actionable recommendations and effectively communicating results to business leaders
