From January 25 through February 21, Montclair State University’s George Segal Gallery will present Art Connections 11, the annual juried exhibit and sale of contemporary art. The exhibit will feature 95 works for viewing and sale with the proceeds going to support the Gallery.

Submissions for Art Connections 11 came from New Jersey, New York, New Mexico, Connecticut, Texas and Pennsylvania. This year, three invited artists will be featured along with the 50 artists whose work in a variety of media has been selected for the show. All works of art are for sale, with proceeds shared 50/50 with the artists. Net proceeds from the sale of the art support the George Segal Gallery’s exhibitions and educational programs, as well as the care of the permanent collection.

Now in its eleventh year, Art Connections has grown from a regional exhibit to one that is national in scope. The exhibit is equally popular with area collectors, curators and art dealers, and gallery patrons. “Each year, Art Connections looks to assemble works that reflect what is happening nationwide within the art world,” says Teresa Rodriguez, director of the Montclair State University Art Galleries and the George Segal Gallery.

Art historian and art writer Kathleen Madden served as juror for Art Connections 11. A regular contributor to art books and publications such as Artforum, Art in America and OSMOS, she has been a member of curatorial teams for exhibits at London’s Tate Modern, Barbican Art Gallery and the Serpentine Galleries. As commissioning editor of contemporary art at Phaidon Press, she produced such books as Vitamin Ph: New Perspectives in Photography and Ice Cream: Contemporary Art and Culture. Madden teaches at Barnard College and Sotheby’s Institute of Art and is currently both working on a book about legendary performance artist Carolee Schneemann.

Art Connections 11 can be viewed from January 25 through February 21 at the George Segal Gallery on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. and on Thursdays from 12:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The George Segal Gallery is wheelchair accessible.
