The Italian program offers courses to fulfill your World Languages Requirement*(see link for full details).
To fulfill this requirement, you must complete six s.h. (two sequential courses). Not sure for which courses you qualify? Take the Italian placement test (see the Language Placement Testing site for full information). Depending on a number of factors, including the score on the placement test, and years of study of Italian in high school, you will be placed accordingly into a level that reflects current skills and academic history. Remember, it’s two sequential courses, so you may not take these language courses out of sequence, nor may you take more than one of them in the same semester simultaneously. This policy affects the following courses:
ITAL 101, 102, 140,** 242, 243
Note: The first semester level course (101) of a language is meant for true beginners who have no experience with the language. Students with experience, either academic or personal, will be placed at the second semester level or higher. Any exceptions to this policy must be approved by the appropriate department chair.
*There are no courses in the Italian program that fulfill the World Cultures Requirement.
**ITAL 103 and 104 are not longer offered as separate courses. They have been combined into ITAL 140
