A Sokol Summer Graduate Student Research Fellowship was awarded to Garret Nieddu. He will work with advisor Dr. David Trubatch to “Investigate other methods for discretization of KdV.” Specifically, the Zabusky-Kruskal lattice, and related discretizations of the Korteweg-de Vries equation, are model systems that exhibit nearly periodic behavior (recurrence) on an intermediate scale. To gain insight into the mechanism of this recurrence, they will undertake a systematic simulation over the relevant parameter space and compute quantitative measures of the observed dynamics.
